Friday Sessions #112: ‘Just a man and his will to survive’ – ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ Survivor
Another Friday Session, and if you’re feeling a ‘post summer energy dip,’ then this week’s track is for you. Full of energy, fight and hunger, I hope listening to Survivor’s ‘Eye Of The Tiger‘ leaves you with the same big smile on your face as I have right now.
It’s a 1980’s classic written as the theme to the film Rocky III, but have you every considered what all that thrilling, rising, passion is really talking about?
Todays lyric: ‘Just a man and his will to survive ’
Aside from the basic verb forms, there are many different ways to use the word ‘will.’ But the above lyric is referring to a noun as a synonym of ‘determination.’ So we could also say ‘The man and his determination to survive.’ Check out some other examples with the same form:
“They accomplished great results through sheer will.”
“Having his support gave me the will and determination to succeed.”
(Oh, and please watch the video….)
Lyrics:
Rising up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his preys in the night
And he’s watching us now in the eye of the tiger
Face to face, out in the heat
Hanging tough, staying hungry
They stack the odds ’til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his preys in the night
And he’s watching us now in the eye of the tiger
Rising up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I’m not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his preys in the night
And he’s watching us now in the eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
