Friday Sessions #72: ‘She’s just hanging around’ – ‘Hanging Around’ The Stranglers

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat. A tried and tested way of learning something new, it’s easy to forget the power of repetition when trying to remember new vocabulary. So, I challenge you to listen to this Friday’s track without remembering one common phrasal verb: ‘to hang around.’

“She’s just hanging around.”

When someone is ‘hanging around,’ they might be waiting for something or someone.

Examples:
“They are always late, so I just have to hang around waiting for them to arrive.”

“Why are you hanging around here so early?” “I am waiting for the shops to open.”

The same phrasal verb is often used to suggest that someone is ‘loitering’ and disturbing other people.

Example:
“The local residents don’t want people hanging around (loitering,) late at night after the bars have closed.”
